Santiago de Compostela

Santiago de CompostelaSantiago de Compostela, named after the Apostle Saint James (Santiago) who is buried here, is the final destination of the medieval pilgrim route Camino de Santiago (‘The Way of St James’) and is now recognised by Unesco as a World Heritage Site.

Santiago is certainly one of Spain's most monumental towns, with a particular architectural style of its own. But it is also a university town bustling with life. The cuisine of the region is well renowned: it is said that you can’t eat better seafood than in Galicia, especially when washed down with a glass of ribeiro.
