Palma de Mallorca

Palma de MallorcaPalma is the major city and port in the island of Mallorca and capital city of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands in Spain. It is situated on the south coast of the island on the Bay of Palma. As of the 2005 census, the population of the city of Palma proper was 375,773, and the population of the entire urban area was estimated to be 474,035, ranking as the 12th-largest urban area of Spain. Almost half of the total population of Mallorca live in Palma. Apart from the beauties of the natural environment, the Cathedral (called la Seo by the mallorquines) which was constructed between the C14th and C19th with its interior designed by Gaudí is the most distinctive man-made landmark.

Mallorca itself is the most popular tourist destination in Europe, largely because of the stunning variety of its scenery, its warm, Mediterranean climate, the hospitality of the islanders and the richness and variety of its culture, including its food and drink.
