Palencia

PalenciaThe city of Palencia, dominated by the imposing statue of the Cristo del Otero, stands on the banks of the river Carrión. It features some superb monuments, such as the imposing cathedral, important provincial museums containing archaeological remains and religious objects. The city is surrounded by two regions of outstanding natural beauty: El Cerrato and Tierra de Campos.

The Camino de Santiago (‘The Way of St James’) runs across this tourist area, which features vast plains and cereal fields sprinkled with monumental church towers and hilltop castles.
