León

The Camino de Santiago (‘The Way of St James’) runs through the monumental city of León rising stoically from the farm lands and vineyards of the locality. Nearby are the towns of Boñar and Puebla de Lillo. The latter is the gateway to the San Isidro skiing resort. Near Mansilla de las Mulas are Villasabariego preserving the remains of the old Astur village of San Miguel, and San Miguel de la Escalada, a superb example of Mozarabic art.

The region is remarkable for its many examples of local architecture incl. castles, monasteries and churches which, to this day, house innumerable works of religious art.
